Wine Cellar Accessories – Accentuating Your Home Wine Cellars

Wine cellar accessories add life and style to home wine cellars.  They exude an interesting appeal and create a lasting impression on guests visiting or taking a look at the wine cellar.  Most wine cellar owners consider it worthwhile to invest in wine cellar accessories.

There are numerous kinds of wine cellar accessories available on the market today.  The most popular ones are wine barrel tables and wall murals.  Wine barrel carvings are also getting more and more popular these days and they set a new trend in the field of wine cellar design.

Wine Barrel Tables and Tabletops

Wine Barrel Table Top

Wine Barrel Table Top

Wine barrel tables and tabletops are unique furniture that gives character to home wine cellars (and commercial wine cellars as well).  Reclaimed wine barrels can actually serve many important functions; they can be used as tasting tables, decanting areas, stand-alone decorative pieces, wine display furniture, tabletops, and other functions that one can make out of wine barrels.

Wine barrel tables and tabletops can also be customized based on the style that the customers are looking for.  The tabletops can be made out of oak, pine, glass or any recycled material to suit the customers’ preference.

Wall Murals

Wall murals are a brilliant way to set the ambiance inside a wine cellar.  There are many types of murals: large wall murals, tumbled marble tile murals and metal murals are three popular kinds.

Large wall murals are in the form of paintings or photographs created onto vinyl, canvas or repositionable peel and stick surfaces.  This type of mural is ideal for wide wall surfaces with a minimum area of four feet by six feet.

Since most home wine cellars have high humidity levels, canvas wall murals are not recommended.  Instead, the peel and stick, and vinyl types are commonly used in wine cellars because they can stand the high moisture levels.

Tumbled marble tile murals are ideal for small spaces (such as inside an arch).  They look like natural stones with a rustic scheme and are available in two sizes: four by four inches and six by six inches.

Metal murals are also ideal for indoor small spaces.  These come in one piece with various sizes to choose from.  They are also available in copper, bronze or nickel colored metals sealed with a clear coating.

Wine Barrel Carvings

Adding wine barrel carvings in wine cellars is a brilliant approach to achieving a personalized design.  Various customized designs can be depicted on wine barrel carvings and these include, but are not limited to, company name and logo, landscape, wildlife forms, grapevine, human hands, badges, family crests and more.

Peter Forbes is one of the popular wood artisans who hand carves wine barrels.  Peter starts the carving by making a sketch first of the desired design and when the client approves, he starts hand carving it.

Custom wine barrel carvings are created out of reclaimed wine barrels, which went through reconditioning, staining, lacquering and sealing.  The part of the barrel that is commonly used for carving is the barrel head, which is made of staves and hoops.

Hosting Wine Parties in Residential Wine Cellars

Wine Enthusiasts – Having Wine Parties in Home Wine Cellars

There are many benefits to having a wine cellar in your home. They are great investments, raising the value of your property. They allow homeowners to buy and collect a lot of wine, storing it long term, a wonderful hobby these days. But perhaps one of the most fun advantages of having a wine cellar is when you have parties and entertain guests.

Enjoying Wine Storing and Entertaining in Your Home

Residential wine cellars in Dallas, Texas are a great addition to any home, and they can be a major selling point should the owners decide to put their house on the market.

Another advantage of having a private wine cellar is that it allows collectors to buy wines in bulk.  Home wine cellars provide the right climate conditions for wines to age to their full potential.  It also offers ease of access to a wide range of varietals at any given time.

But perhaps most important, wine cellars also serve as the perfect venue for entertaining friends and hosting wine tasting parties.  In fact, wine rooms nowadays are designed not just for storage purposes, but also for entertainment.  Modern wine cellars are a picture of elegance and cozy ambiance, which makes them a great place for holding a little soiree with friends and family.

A wine tasting party is an event where people who are passionate about wines come together to talk about their favorite varietals, as well as try out new and unusual tastes that will satisfy their curious palates.  There’s more to tasting parties than just knocking back glass after glass of wine.  It is a casual setting, preferably in a wine tasting room, where everyone can share their wine experiences and knowledge, and also create opportunities to nurture and cultivate friendships.

Hosting a wine tasting party comes in handy when one has access to a residential wine cellar.  It can stave off the stress of searching for the best location to conduct the event.  Having wine parties in-home wine cellars offers a sense of intimacy and quietude not afforded to a commercial space.

Pick a Party Theme

Wine Parties in Residential Wine Cellars – Choice of Wines

For wine enthusiasts who are keen on throwing their own wine tasting event, there are a few things to keep in mind in order to make the affair memorable.  The first is to pick a theme for the event.  A group may choose to compare and taste an assortment of wines from the same grape varieties from different regions.

Once a theme has been picked, the host then decides on what approach to use to explore this idea.  One approach could be to host a vertical wine tasting event, which focuses on wines that come from the same winery but are produced from different grape varieties.  Another angle could be a horizontal tasting party, which involves wines produced from the same grape varieties.

Party Size

Although there is no rule as to how many people can attend a wine tasting party, it is always a good idea to keep the size to a minimum.  The size of the group should be enough to taste test one bottle of each wine.  A single bottle of wine can pour 12 1.5 ounce tastes.  Hence, the ideal party size should be around 12 people.  Limiting the number of people in attendance also provides plenty of opportunities to exchange and compare wine tasting notes.

Types of Stemware to Use and Food to Serve

Picking out the right glass stemware is also an important factor.  Plastic cups are a no-no unless you’re throwing a frat party.  Remember that wine glasses can influence the perception and presentation of varietals.  Different shapes of glass stemware can enhance the characteristics and aroma of different wines.  At a casual wine tasting event, wine glasses need not be stylish but should at least be clear enough to see, smell, swirl, and sip wines.

Pairing food with wines is an excellent idea.  Providing a small selection of finger food appetizers can help intensify the tasting experience.  Examples of wine tasting appetizers are cheese plates, cured sausages and meat, bruschetta, and cured olives.  Serving bread or crackers can help cleanse the palate between each taste.  Also, make sure that there is water on hand to keep guests hydrated.

Table Preparations

In order for the color of wines to be seen accurately, the venue for the wine tasting party must be properly illuminated and the table should be covered in a white tablecloth.  If a white tablecloth is not available, white place-mats will do.  Paper and pens should also be distributed so that guests can write down their observations and describe their experiences.

Home Wine Distribution and Storage Systems by WineStation

Wine Dispensers for Wine Enthusiastes in their HomeA new trend in home wine storage is to install a wine pouring device that also stores your open bottles. When bottles get opened they need to be finished within a couple of days or they get ruined by oxidation. This elegant device stores wine that’s been opened for up to a month.

You can also program the exact amount for wine distribution. This makes for a perfect pour every time. Many wine bars and restaurants use this for serving lots of glasses of wine easily and professionally. Having a WineStation in your home, at your party, can make for convenient serving, reduce spills, and prevent unintended-drinking. And it’s beautifully designed, adding a stunning piece of luxury to your home.

Many Happy Wine Cellar Memories

With a properly installed residential wine cellar, a wine dispenser, and a well planned out event with all the party perks, the event will surely be a success. There will be many more happy memories to come in a beautiful home, with the help of custom wine storage and a wine serving room. Enjoy!

Vital Elements Involved in Constructing Custom Wine Cellars

Although there are various ways of storing your wine collection, wine cellars are considered the best storage solution.  The controlled, secure environment of a wine cellar protects wines from the negative influences of light, temperature, and humidity.  Storing wines under the right conditions is vital to preserving their taste and flavor over time.

In order for a wine cellar to achieve its maximum potential, there are several elements that need to be considered prior to its actual construction.  The first is to determine the size and location of the wine cellar.  The size of your wine cellar depends on its intended purpose.  Will, it is solely used for wine storage or will it also serve as a venue for wine tasting parties?

Finding the perfect location for your wine cellar is also essential as this will help you decide which type of wine cellar refrigeration unit to install.  Most home wine cellars are constructed above ground; hence, they require efficient insulation and vapor barriers to maintain the required climate conditions.

The next element to consider is the storage capacity of your wine cellar.  Consider the number of wine bottles you currently have in your inventory and how many bottles you intend to add in the future.  A ballpark estimate of your wine collection will also help you determine the type of racking system to install.

Wine racks are an important aspect of cellaring wines.  Racking systems are designed to store wine bottles at an angle that keeps the cork in constant contact with the wine.  Storage racks are available in different sizes and styles that can suit various needs and requirements.

Although most wine racks come in pre-fabricated designs for easy installation, there is also an option to have them custom built.  Custom wine racks are specifically built to fit your wine cellar, taking into account the architectural structure and constraints of your storage space.  Custom racking systems may be an expensive storage solution, but will nevertheless provide a unique flair to your wine cellar.

Wine Cellar Doors

Wine Cellar Doors

Another element to consider is the kind of door for your wine cellar.  Since cellar doors serve as the entryway to your wine enclave, it should be functional and aesthetically pleasing at the same time.  Wine cellar doors are made out of wood, glass, and wrought iron.  These doors need to have an airtight seal to help keep the correct level of temperature and humidity inside the wine cellar.

Choosing the proper flooring material for your wine cellar is equally important.  The flooring surface must be strong and durable to withstand the combined weight of the racking systems and cabinetry.  Wood, cork, tile, stone, and recycled wine barrels are common materials used in wine cellar flooring.

The last element to consider is the lighting system.  Lighting elements allow you to highlight and feature your favorite wine labels.  LED-based lighting solutions are most appropriate for wine cellar use since they emit less heat compared to regular light bulbs.

There are benefits to installing dimmer switches and light timers in your wine cellar.  Dimmer switches allow you to control the level of brightness in your wine storage room.  Light timers are energy savers and they prevent continuous light exposure.

Anil Custom Home Wine Cellar in Chicago, Illinois

Custom Wine Cellars Naperville, Illinois

Custom Wine Cellar Naperville, Illinois

One of the most interesting wine cellar projects we did was the Anil Custom Wine Cellar Naperville, Illinois. The wine cellar is built in the entertainment and bar area, where space is a bit small.

With a room that measures 3 1/2 feet by 7 ¾ feet, it was challenging to create a custom wine cellar design that would complement existing décor of the home, fit the size of the client’s collection, and meet the technical requirements.

The Anil project was actually a closet conversion type. We carefully planned the setup and made sure that the small space provided would be effectively converted to an elegant wine storage area. With the challenge of having limited space, we were able to create a wine cellar that can house up to 497 wine bottles with the added lighting effect and wine racks made of premium redwood.

Stylish Features

We incorporated wood and glass components into the custom wine cellar design to create an eye-catching wine display and storage area for our client’s prized collection. These materials blend well with the countertop in their bar area.

Wooden Wine Rack Design
Glass and Wood Home Custom Wine Cellar Design in Chicago Illinois

Wood is a popular material for building traditional and transitional custom wine cellars. In this particular wine room installation project in Chicago, Illinois, we incorporated individual wine storage racks on the back wall. We also created a square opening with a tabletop at the center and stemware racking that holds the glasses upside down. The tabletop provides additional storage space for a few bottles, wine accessories, and decorative accents.

There is a 4-column display row on both sides of the tabletop. At the bottom section, we added storage slots for the client’s wooden cases. At the top section of the left and right walls of this custom wine cellar, we installed waterfall wine racks that display the bottles in a cascading manner. We also included high reveal display rows and more single bottle wine racks below them.

Glass Door and Windows

Adding glass elements to the wine cellar design helped Wine Cellar Specialists to add a contemporary touch to the wine room. We installed a large glass wine cellar door to allow the family and their guests to have a clear view of the bottles from the bar and entertainment area.

Another exciting project we had was Dave’s Custom Wine Cellar, which was constructed in the basement of his beautiful home in Palos Heights, Illinois.

The design we created for this large home wine cellar consisted of Premium Redwood and reclaimed wine barrel.

This custom wine cellar is constructed with Premium Redwood custom wine racks. The choice of wine rack designs add elegance to this wine room and they included true-radius curve racks, solid x bins, corner wine racks, and solid archway with led lighting and display rows. Wine Cellar Specialists further enhanced the look of the wine cellar by using the client’s own wine barrel, making it into a tabletop and a peninsula type of tasting table.

Reclaimed wine barrels can also be used for the wine racks, flooring, and art pieces. We installed a lighting system above the solid arch and display rows. The chandelier illuminates the wine cellar dramatically.

Griffith Dallas Texas Custom Wine Cellar

A contemporary residential wine cellar design is the inspiration of the Griffith Dallas Texas Custom Wine Cellar project. When building contemporary wine rooms, we utilize metal and glass components to achieve a sleek and minimalist appeal.

The challenge in this project was the small closet space that we had to work with. Wine Cellar Specialists and the client decided to go for a contemporary style by using metal wine racks in black with a fully climate-controlled system. The metal wine racks are ideal space savers and they create a modern look of wine storage where the wine racking system stores wines from floor to ceiling.

An Elegant Wine Cellar Installed in Dallas, Texas

Just like other wine collectors, racking alone is probably not for you. Valuable red and white wines should not be stored in the kitchen, not if you expect them to increase in value and remain robust. Building a wine cellar in your home is probably the right option for you.

The wine cellar you build should regulate humidity and temperature since both are essential to protecting your investment.

Dallas, Texas wine cellars are designed to maintain the optimum conditions need in the proper ageing of wine. They are equipped with a wine cooling system that can keep the temperature and humidity at the ideal range. Without an efficient climate-control system, your collection will go to waste.

See other blog posts about the right temperature and humidity in which to keep your wine.

If you want, you can also install a refrigerator in another part of your home. Never put a wine refrigerator inside your wine cellar. The motor on the unit will give off heat and make it harder to keep your room at a constant temperature. Your cooling unit will be fighting the heat coming from the refrigerator. You can use the refrigerator to chill the white wines you intend to drink soon. But for storage temperature, your white wines and your red wines can be stored together in the same wine cellar.

More Tips from a Wine Cellar Expert in Dallas, Texas

Home Wine Cellar with Wine Barrel Racks

Wine Cellar Specialists provides the following tips to help you determine the right storage solution that suits your needs.

When planning your home wine storage system, whether using a cellar in your home or racks in your kitchen, long-term thinking requires you to think about durability. Don’t just go with a wine rack that looks strong. Make sure your rack can stand on its own and can handle the number of bottles of wine you’d keep on it at one time. Don’t plan for the least possible situation. Make sure your rack can handle anything you may want to use it for.

Consider the way your home looks before buying your wine racks. If your home is more modern and metal, then go with a metal rack, but if there is a lot of wood in your home, then go with a wood rack. There is also the possibility of reclaimed wine barrel racking. This is a more costly way to go but, if you can afford it, it truly makes for a magnificent look. It also has the smell of a winery when you walk into the room as the wood used for this racking was originally used for barrels that held wine. That wine smell is still in the wood.

Your wine storage system can be as individual as your specific taste in wine. No matter the vintage, and no matter your choice, storing your wine is as important as pairing it with the right meal and for the right dinner guests.
